Sunday Morning
…Rain is falling. Personally, I’d wait through rain and sleet for these strawberry earl gray cinnamon buns from Sunday Morning in the East Village.
You’ve probably seen the cinnamon bun craze gracing your social feeds ever since Sunday Morning opened last January - and for good reason. If they continue churning out delicious pastries with consistency, I don’t see any reason for the trend to die.
My roommate and I set our alarms the night before to avoid missing out on any sold-out flavors. We arrived on a Thursday morning at about 10am, and though there was a line, nothing was sold out. We decided to narrow down our selection to just the classic cream-cheese frosted and a strawberry earl gray (rookie mistake). Though they were both divine, the latter melted in our mouths to such a degree, the only word I remember being uttered was “phenomenal”. My roommate held our table as I immediately got back in line for round 2.
Upon our second gooey purchase, we sampled the blueberry lemon and pistachio flavored buns. Blueberry lemon was incredible, though pistachio was slightly dry. They were all on the heavier side (I mean, look at them) but the options topped with fruit offered a refreshing and juicy reprieve from the overload of cinnamony-dough. Overall, though an indulgent breakfast, these cinnamon buns were to die for, and I will certainly be heading back for another strawberry earl gray masterpiece.
